What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a treatment that derived from ancient Chinese medicine which uses fine needles in certain areas of the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes.


How does acupuncture work?


The Western medical use for acupuncture is usually followed from a medical diagnosis which involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and muscles. This causes the body to naturally producing substances such as pain relieving endorphins.


Acupuncture is often used to treat musculoskeletal conditions (of the bones and muscles) and pain conditions, including:

  • chronic pain, such as neck pain

  • joint pain

  • postoperative pain
